I've set aside this section of my studio to draw your attention to
the songs of Klaatu, a Canadian band of the 1970's(I've sequenced three
midis of their songs which are featured here).
If
you've never heard of this group, then you're in for a treat. Klaatu first
appeared on the scene in 1976, and created quite a commotion in the music
world because it sounded extremely like the Beatles. At that time the Beatles
were no longer active so, since there were no individual names on the Klaatu
album, a rumour spread that Klaatu was actually the Beatles performing
under a new name. Not only did Klaatu's songs have all the signature sounds
of the Beatles, one of their numbers even has the phrase, "We Are The Beatles,"
in morse code repeating itself throughout the song. If you have an interest
in the production of music, then it will also interest you to know that
these guys broke the barriers of the recording studio. The were the first
to use many of the recording techniques which are used today. With a sound
that falls somewhere between the Beatles and Pink Floyd, they are an amazingly
versatile band. One of the most popular groups of the 1970's, "The Carpenters,"
had a top-10 hit with one of Klaatu's songs, "Calling Occupants of Interplanetary
Craft." Klaatu's CD's are still in print, and anyone who has ever listened
to one of mine has asked for a copy for themselves. For a fascinating history
of this group, I suggest you visit the
Official Klaatu Home Page.

to send me any comments or suggestions concerning my studio or midis.
I value input: like what you hear, let me know; hate what you hear,
tell me why. I will accept suggestions for new midis, but make no promises.
I only sequence what I feel will result in a quality midi, and I'm always
working on a new one.
| Thanks to Les Gorven, our Director,
and Mike Welch, the Consortium's Counsel and all-purpose assistant to the Director, for helping to make this Studio a reality. |
