| During ealy testing on this
site, 20 midi files were transferred to the Server, along with the related
HTML documents. Of these 20 files, two would absolutely not play on the
Web using various combinations of Browser and midi plug-ins. These problem
files were working fine from the hard drive using several midi players
and also the Netscape browser. The problem was not associated with a wrong
MIME type being sent since all the other midi files were okay.
HTML coding was checked and re-checked for the correct spelling. Still no success. The problem was solved several weeks later when transferring two replacement files to the server. What is the name of that file?? If the actual name saved
on your harddisk is "YourFile.MID"
This is a case of WYS is not always WYG. When viewing my directory on the Server, I noticed the two problem files were all in UPPERCASE, whereas I was trying to call them using lowercase. File naming conventions on the Web are absolutely case-sensitive. If you have a file that will not play, check the file name stored on your Server, not what "appears" to be on your hard drive. All MIDI files are now checked in the free VanBasco MIDI Player, which is the only MIDI application I know of that displays the true file name. |
